Local AreaHebden is a delightful little village where you really can escape the crowds. Being in the Yorkshire Dales National Park and only a few miles from the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, you really are guaranteed stunning scenery and lots of fresh air whatever the weather or season.
Are you hoping to explore the area on foot, by bike or by car? Here are some ideas and links:
EXPLORE ON FOOT
Unsurprisingly, many visitors to the area want to be out and about on foot. You can leave your car at the house and enjoy splendid walks straight from the door. Follow our babbling beck downstream just half a mile until it joins the River Wharfe. From here you can then head towards Burnsall, Grassington or Thorpe. Alternatively, following the beck upstream you will enjoy the tranquillity of Hebden Gill (walking in the footsteps of the 19th century lead miners) towards Yarnbury and Grassington Moor.
We are only half a mile away from the long distance walking routes of the Dales Way and the Lady Anne’s Way.
There is a good selection of maps and guide books in the house for further ideas. An area is available in the hallway for drying off wet boots and coats should you need it.
EXPLORE BY BICYCLE
This is a popular area for cycling so we have a secure shed for storing your bikes. If you are familiar with the ‘100 Great Cycling Climbs’ (by Simon Warren), you will be delighted to know that 5 of the routes are reachable from Orchard House.
Are you cycling the ‘Way of the Roses’ long distance route? We are not far from the route for a day 1 stopover.
In 2016, ‘Le Tour de Yorkshire’ came straight past the house.
EXPLORE BY CAR (or canal barge, or steam train)
The Yorkshire Dales National Park is a wonderful area to enjoy by car. There are many attractions and areas to visit within a 40/60 minute drive of the house. We have some wonderful National Trust areas/properties near by, as well as Castles and Caves, Gardens and Ruins. In your room you will find a wealth of information for things to do and places to visit. Do get in touch if you would like help planning your visit.
